Laboratory of Biomolecular Electronics

Head Professor Olexey P. Soldatkin, Dr.Sc.

Laboratory of Protein Biosynthesis

Head Professor Boris S. Negrutskii, Dr.Sc.

The fundamental research of the Department encompasses:

The elaboration of novel analytical systems, bio- and chemosensors, on the basis of different electrochemical transducers and biological objects or synthetic biomimics

Ongoing research projects are focused on:

Studies on molecular mechanisms that ensure the high efficiency and accuracy of genome expression at the translation level in higher eukaryotes.

The elongation stage of protein biosynthesis on higher eukaryotic ribosomes is being studied

Investigation of the tissue- and cycle-specific genes expression in the actively proliferating eukaryotic cells or the cells under the influence of unfavourable conditions (low dose radiation, chemical pollution etc.)

Much attention is given to test-systems for the herbicides and pesticides determination, to the development of new enzyme analytical sets, enzyme – and cell biosensors for the monitoring of formaldehude, heavy metals ions and other toxic substances.

Studies on biomimics, which have biological activity but at the same time, being more stable, they are suitable for analytical devices in the conditions when the biological elements of sensors get inactivated.
